The United Nations Environment Programme, commonly known as UNEP, was established in 1972, is a committee created to tackle main environmental affairs in our common society. This committee is responsible for ensuring that environments are being well cared for, and therefore, improving the quality of life of a variety of communities throughout the world: Within the UNEP committee there are 7 different areas, such as: climate change, disaster and conflict, ecosystem management, environmental governance, chemicals and waste, resource efficiency and the environment under review. UNEP works along with partners responsible for funding up to 95% of the committee's activities, ensuring that all of the seven areas are considered while maintaining its commitment to environmental sustainability. The UNEP follows a framework to ensure that United Nations values are being followed. These values include: human rights and equality-based approach, the sustainability and resilience principle and accountability, and the leave no one behind the principle.
