Raquel

Hello delegates! My name is Raquel Cardenas and I’m currently a senior at the International School of Panama. My family is Colombian, but I was born in Panama and lived here all my life. I first participated in PANAMUN in 9th grade and this is my second year as a chair. I’ve always loved to debate because it brings forth many interesting conversations and shines a light on important topics! In my free time, I enjoy working out (weight lifting, cycling, boxing, etc.), creating art, and hanging out with friends. I’m also a big advocate for environmentalism and a science enthusiast. I’m sure that this conference will be the best one yet, and I can’t wait to meet and share great experiences with everyone on this committee. Good luck and see you soon!

Welcome delegates to PANAMUN XXIX! My name is Miranda Delgado, I am a junior at the Metropolitan School of Panama and I have the honour of being a chair for the United Nations Environment Programme this year. I was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela but I have been living in Panama for over eleven years. When I was in 8th grade I discovered my school’s MUN club and I have been participating in debates ever since… well, formally at least, because I’d like to think that I’ve been debating my whole life. I have been very lucky to experience MUN as a delegate, a chair, and by being involved in the organization of a conference. Collaborating with people who each represent such diverse perspectives has not only brought me new friends, but opened my mind and made me a much more realistic and critical thinker. My experience has taught me the importance of speaking up and being authentic, which is my biggest advice for all of you. I encourage everyone to come to the conference with an in-depth understanding of your position, make sure that you know what you want and that you communicate it at all times. Other than debating, I love traveling, swimming, surfing, and pretty much anything that has to do with the beach or water. I am eager to hear all about the innovative ideas that will arise from our time together and I can’t wait to meet every single one of you!

Miranda
