Gerardo Gomez

Secretary General

Greetings! My name is Gerardo Gomez, and it is my absolute honor and pleasure to be the Secretary General for PANAMUN XXVI: Strengthening Our Humanity. I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but have been living in Panama for almost the past decade enrolled at the International School of Panama, where I am currently a junior. PANAMUN is by far my favorite aspect of ISP, as I get to learn and debate about developing world issues and practice public speaking and leadership skills. MUN is one of the ways I was able to transform myself from a shy kid who hated public speaking, to someone that loves challenging ideas in large crowds. Apart from that, I aspire to become a doctor, as I am deeply passionate about medicine and biology. Outside of school, I like to read, hang out with my friends, and meet new people and learn their stories.

My first MUN experience was back in 8th grade, when I had the opportunity to participate in PANAMUN XXII as a delegate. The experience was unlike anything I ever did before, and got me truly engaged and interested in the world we live in. I participated actively in the following PANAMUNs as delegate, in which I was bestowed the Best Delegate Award, Chair for the World Health Organization, and now the Secretary General of the conference. This is a goal I have worked tirelessly to achieve ever since I set it up for myself back when I was only 14. I also recently had the opportunity to attend The Hague International Model United Nations, where I was able to meet numerous other individuals as interested in MUN as I was.

Being the Secretary General, I vow to make PANAMUN XXVI one that the school will surely never forget. Furthermore, I was once inspired by a former Secretary General to become a better leader and challenge myself to become the best that I can be. I wish to pass on those values to delegates and those with aspirations to further pursue interest in MUN.

Although the journey will be hard, I am very excited and looking forward to October. Alongside me is a team with years of experience and mountains of passion for MUN. My life motto has always been: life in meaningless unless I use it to make another one better. PANAMUN is one of the ways I was able to craft this mentality, and as Secretary General, I hope I can better lives and inspire those to take action and strengthen our humanity!
