The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) was established in 1946 to provide aid to children in countries devastated by World War II. The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund strives to promote children's emotional and physical well-being in underdeveloped and disaster-affected areas. It is currently active in more than 190 countries and supports health and development, child protection, social inclusion, and gender equality. UNICEF is funded solely by governments' voluntary contributions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and private organizations. Nearly every area of government policy, from education to public health, affects children to some extent. Short-sighted policymaking that fails to take children into account harms the future of all members of society. Children hold around 24% of the population, but they are our whole future. This is why UNICEF exists, to protect children and ensure the future of the human race.
