Melody Buchanan

Greetings Delegates! My name is Melody Buchanan and I will be one of your chairs for PANAMUN XXXI in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Some personal facts about me are that I’m currently a junior, I’m Panamanian, and I’ve lived here my whole life. Regarding my MUN background, my first conference was PANAMUN XXIX when I was still a freshman. While it was a nerve-racking experience as it was my first year in high school and PANAMUN, it was also enjoyable and intriguing. I learned a lot from my peers and was able to push myself outside of my comfort zone. PANAMUN XXX was my second MUN conference and it was even more thrilling. I was more confident so I was able to put myself out there and interact with delegates from all over the world. I was a delegate at both of these conferences so I know firsthand what it feels like to be in your spot. PANAMUN gave me a handful of mixed feelings. There were many moments when I was so stressed I was genuinely considering acting sick and dropping the conference altogether. However, I am so glad I didn’t because all that stress ended up blossoming into beautiful and hilarious memories I’ll never forget. PANAMUN is a great opportunity to grow and debate topics you’re interested in. Even if it gets hard, I challenge you to push through it. That being said, I look forward to meeting you all and I hope I’m able to make it enjoyable for you. Until then delegates!

Irene Gonzales

Hello delegates!! My name is Irene Gonzalez and I welcome you to Panamun XXXI. I am a junior at the International School of Panama and am beyond excited to be one of the chairs of ECOSOC. I was born in Spain, and lived there until I was 7 years old. Entering the 3rd grade I moved to Panama City.  Discovering what Panamun was in the 6th grade I instantly fell in love with debate. Since then, I've proudly participated in each  PANAMUN conference up until now. Throughout these conferences I've gained many crucial life skills including leadership, problem solving, researching, and most importantly, how crucial it is to use my voice for things I believe in. I am extremely eager to meet all of you, as well as promise to try my best in creating a safe space for everyone. I will not only ensure a flowing debate throughout this conference, but will encourage all delegates to participate and debate their country's point of view. I can’t wait to meet all of you, see you soon!
