Alex Barbosa

Hello delegates! My name is Alexandre Barbosa da Silva Junior, and I am an 12th grader here at the International School of Panama. I come from a small town in Brazil, but I’ve lived in Panama for more than 9 years now. Having this contrasting rural background and international lifestyle has broadened my horizons, and has helped me understand new cultures and ideas. Amongst my interests are coin collecting and language learning, very “international hobbies,” so to speak. These factors influence my love for debating and Model UN conferences. With pride, I have accepted the duties of chairing the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in this year’s PANAMUN conference. This was the first committee assigned to me a few conferences back, so personally, there is a very strong personal connection. My wish is for this committee to inspire the delegates as much as I was inspired the first time I was debating. I hope that all delegates will join me with enthusiasm and willingness to debate, and to make this year’s conference the best one yet. I am more than excited to meet all delegates and see their solutions for the issues presented!

Yankel Leib Gelman

Hello, Delegates! My name is Yankel Gelman and I am currently a Senior at the American School Foundation in Mexico City. This year I’ll have the honor of being your ECOSOC Co-Chair. I look forward to meeting you guys, working with you, and hopefully helping you grow as delegates. In the meantime, let me share a short history of myself. I have participated in MUN conferences since 8th grade when I was invited to be a part of my school’s MUN class, yet I only began loving it a year later when I saw its potential for providing me with knowledge and interesting debate. That love has taken me to seven MUN conferences and an assortment of public speaking and debate events, including the Pan American Debate Championship. In my free time, I love learning and watching movies, cooking, playing board games, and participating in anything nerd related. I embrace my love for debating in my daily life by having interesting conversations with my friends and always trying to prove my points, however trivial they may be. As a first time Chair, I hope you all share my excitement for being a part of PANAMUN and learning as much as possible. I wish for this to be one of the best MUN experiences you’ve had as I will give as much effort as possible to create an engaging and complex debate. I can’t wait until October!
