Andrea Belrán Ruiz
Welcome to PANAMUN XXVI: Strengthening Our Humanity! My name is Andrea Beltrán Ruiz and I will be one of the chairs of the Human Rights Council for middle school. I am currently a senior at the International School of Panama, and have lived in this country for seven years. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and besides debate, I enjoy playing the guitar, travelling, and spending time with my family and friends. My MUN journey started at this same conference, four years ago, when I was introduced to the world of debate in 8th grade. I have been involved in PANAMUN as a delegate, Student Officer, and even Secretariat! Throughout the multiple conferences, both, nationally and internationally, that I have attended, I still find that in the world of MUN, learning is never-ending. This conference empowers the youth and allows the leaders of tomorrow to emerge. I can only say to you, delegates, to always try your best, be open to new situations and perspectives, and—most importantly—to not be intimidated, but motivated. Good luck!
Maria Elisa Yanes
Welcome Delegates! My name is Maria Elisa Yanes and I’ll be you chair for the Middle School Human Rights Council for this year’s PANAMUN XXVI. I’m 16 years old and currently a Junior in the International School of Panama. I was born in Denver, Colorado and shortly after moved to Miami for two years, then Caracas, Venezuela and have lived in Panama for 8 years now. I have participated in PANAMUN twice as a delegate and decided that this year I would be chairing for the first time. In this conference I have found a passion for debating strong topics with arguments that might not represent my point of view, but of the country that I have been chosen to represent. Other than debating, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends as well as playing soccer and being outdoors. I am intrigued by the solutions that the delegates can bring to the table, portraying what humanity is all about. Let’s give the best of ourselves and show what we can really do.
