Welcome delegates of PANAMUN XXVII! My name is Julia Hietavirta and I’m a senior at the International School of Panama. I was born in Venezuela and have lived in Brazil and Spain. I’ve spent 12 years now living in Panama. Nevertheless, I consider myself to be Finnish, as the entirety of my family is from Finland. I love singing, listening to music, reading, writing, and hiking, as well as debating, but that goes unsaid. I’m honored to be chairing the United Nations Environment Program this year. It will be my fourth PANAMUN conference, this time as a returning chair. I got my first chance to be part of PANAMUN in the eighth grade as a delegate in DISEC. My second year of PANAMUN I got into ICJ as a judge, and my third, I was chair of  SOCHUM. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to this year’s conference and I hope for a fruitful three days of debating!
