The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was created on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. This non-profit organization is devoted to saving lives, protecting the rights of, and building a better future for the forcefully displaced communities, stateless people, and refugees. It works to ensure that all refugees have the right to obtain asylum and find a safe refuge in another country, with the option of returning to their homes voluntarily, integrating locally, or resettling in a third country. It also had the responsibility to help stateless people. The main headquarters of this organization is located in Geneva, Switzerland, but it has offices around the world located in 135 countries. The UN agency has 20.4 million refugees under its mandate as of June 2020. The agency uses this budget to provide shelter, protection, emergency relief, and healthcare for refugees. Its other functions include assisting in the formulation of national and multilateral policies and the aid for resettlement and repatriation of the refugees.
