The Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee was conceived in order to achieve a greater impact on the preservation of human rights as well as the execution of fundamental freedoms at a global scale. Its main priorities encompass the understanding of humanitarian and social development problems and a brainstorm of solutions for these contemporary issues. Ever since its creation in 1948, SOCHUM attempts to consider solutions in specific countries or regions that are dealing with (primordially) humanitarian issues. SOCHUM is also meant to work in cooperation with UNHCR and ECOSOC. Regarding what the committee addresses within its meetings, there is a wide scale of touched issues; scaling from women’s rights to the abolishment of racism and to the protection of children.
